The International Group (IG) has unanimously agreed that, at its November 2025 AGM, Rolf Thore Roppestad (CEO of Gard), be proposed as the new IG Chair. Rolf Thore will succeed Andrew Cutler (CEO of Britannia P&I), at the end of his 3-year term in the role.
The IG operates under the banners of ‘Collectively Stronger’ and ‘Together we enable world trade’. This is best evidenced by the IG celebrating in 2024 its 125th year anniversary of pooling liability risks in support of shipowners. Next year will see the 75th year that the IG has collectively purchased reinsurance from the world’s leading reinsurers.
The IG continues to support it members through a range of further activities, including:
• Engagement with governments and supranational and national bodies e.g. on international conventions (including in respect of alternative fuels) and sanctions;
• Casualty response, which has included signing MOUs with a range of coastal nations on engagement with IG Clubs if there is a casualty in their waters;
• Promotion of seafarer safety; and
• Education outreach, primarily through the IG’s P&IQ.
