The International Group of P&I Clubs and The Education Committee are pleased to offer scholarships each year.
Scholarships available
Each year, the Group's Education Committee awards scholarships to individuals to complete the P&IQ. In 2026, the Education Committee reviewed 146 applications from Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, Columbia, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Korea, Libya, Mauritius, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Panama, Philippines, Peru, Poland, Republic of Cape Verde, Romania, Russia, Saudia Arabia, Senegal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, United Kingdom, Ukraine, USA, Vietnam and Yemen.
Fifteen scholarships were awarded in 2026. Six of these were awarded to correspondent applicants.
The Group offers at least two scholarships each year to employees of commercial Club correspondent companies listed in the most recently published correspondent list of an IG P&I Club, who might otherwise be unable to complete the course. The scholarships reflect the high value that IG P&I Clubs place on their global correspondent network and recognises the vital role correspondents play in serving Members around the world.
Scholarship details
The scholarship will provide electronic textbooks for all seven modules, meet all exam fees needed to complete the course (subject to the provisions in the Scholarship Agreement) and provide mentoring to scholars.
Scholarship eligibility criteria
Candidates should:
- Preferably, candidates will have some experience within the maritime industry. In particular, we hope that the scholarship will offer those with less experience a chance to learn more about the industry.
- Have a good standard of written and spoken English
- Be unable to meet course fees because of financial need
- Have demonstrated, through previous qualifications, studies, or professional achievements, the capability to undertake a more advanced programme of study
- Demonstrate a desire to follow a career in the maritime industry

The application window for 2026 has now closed. The scholarship application will reopen in April 2027.
