108th session of the IMO Legal Committee (remote) – International Group attendance
The International Group took an active role at the 108th remote session of the IMO Legal Committee that was held on 26th to 30th July 2021 and welcomed in particular the Committee’s agreement on the draft Unified Interpretation on the shipowner’s right to limit liability under the IMO Conventions.
International Group reports record year for education
Since it launched in 2010, the International Group’s P&I Qualification (P&IQ) programme has grown to become one of the shipping industry’s foremost professional courses. In 2020, with its international reach and network, the IG P&IQ found itself perfectly positioned to deliver its courses and exams online. This led to the greatest participation levels to date, with 657 candidates sitting P&IQ examinations in the year. Safety animation to help prevent the loss of life in enclosed spaces onboard ships
Too many lives are lost unnecessarily when seafarers or shore-based personnel enter enclosed spaces on board ships. The International Group has collaborated to produce a safety training animation that draws attention to the risk of entering such spaces without first taking preventive and protective measures.
Report on P&I claims involving vessels under pilotage
The scope of this report covers a twenty-year period between 1999 and 2019 in which there were 1,046 such recorded incidents and where each incident gave rise to P&I liabilities in excess of US$100,000.
