The International Group of P&I Clubs is pleased to award a fourth Fellowship at the IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI).
After conducting interviews with three candidates, the Group’s Education Committee is thrilled to offer the fellowship to an outstanding candidate for the upcoming academic year. The Fellowship for 2024-2025, which supports Master of Laws (LL.M) studies in International Maritime Law at IMLI in Malta, has been awarded to Ms. Switle Mae Tamang from the Philippines.
Ms. Switle Mae Tamang, a Legal Officer in the Philippines Coast Guard, was selected after a thorough review process. The International Group is delighted that she has accepted the fellowship.
By offering the IMLI Fellowship, the Group enhances accessibility to IMLI’s postgraduate degree courses and underscores the Group’s commitment to education and knowledge sharing globally. This initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Promoting inclusive quality education) and 8 (Lifelong learning opportunities).

The International Group looks forward to our engagement with Ms Switle Mae Tamang and the assistance that we can provide as she undertakes her LL.M programme to further her knowledge of international maritime law and thereafter when she returns to the Philippines.”
IMLI was established with the support of the IMO and is a world-recognised centre for the training of specialists in international maritime law. IMLI provides suitably-qualified candidates, particularly from developing countries, with advanced training, study and research programmes in the field. Since its establishment, maritime professionals from 147 States and territories have benefited from the Institute’s training in areas related to law of the sea, shipping law, marine environmental law, maritime security law, and maritime legislation drafting.
